Lawmakers Hold UAP Hearings, Push for Transparency on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena

Washington, D.C. – In an effort to bring greater transparency to the ongoing investigations into Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), members of Congress held a widely anticipated hearing this week, broadcast live on C-SPAN. Lawmakers, military personnel, intelligence officials, and scientific experts convened to discuss the government’s knowledge of and response to the mysterious aerial sightings that have puzzled the public and lawmakers alike.

The hearing, which featured testimony from officials at the Department of Defense (DoD) and other intelligence agencies, provided an inside look at the federal government’s approach to UAPs. During the session, lawmakers voiced concerns over national security, the limits of current technology to identify these objects, and the imperative for the government to establish a clear protocol for UAP sightings.

Leading the hearing, Congressman Tim Burchett (R-TN) urged transparency in the reporting and public disclosure of UAP encounters, especially those experienced by military pilots and government contractors. “The American public has a right to know what’s happening in our skies,” he stated. Burchett, along with several colleagues on the subcommittee, emphasized the need for open dialogue and an end to government secrecy on the issue.

Congress held a public hearing on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) as the House Oversight Committee explored claims of concealed government programs on UFOs. Testimonies included former officials like Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, who described experiencing UAP sightings during military operations, and Luis Elizondo, an ex-Pentagon official, who claimed the U.S. possesses advanced non-human technology. Journalist Michael Shellenberger presented extensive documents, pushing for greater transparency and government accountability. Witnesses urged the U.S. to overcome stigma and foster open scientific discussions around these unexplained phenomena.

A recurring point during the hearing was the necessity to gather more data on UAPs to better understand their origin, capabilities, and potential threat level. Officials from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) spoke to advancements in radar and imaging technology. These advances, they said, have increased detection capabilities, but the number of UAPs that defy easy classification continues to rise.

One of the key witnesses, Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, head of the AARO, testified that although the majority of UAP sightings can be explained as drones, balloons, or other conventional technologies, a subset of these encounters remains unexplained. Dr. Kirkpatrick pointed to the need for deeper investigation into this small percentage of cases, calling for dedicated funding and resources to enhance the government’s ability to collect data, analyze patterns, and cooperate with international counterparts.

The hearing also featured compelling accounts from military witnesses, including former Navy pilots who described their close encounters with unknown objects. Lieutenant Ryan Graves, a former Navy F/A-18 pilot, recounted seeing UAPs during training missions off the coast of Virginia Beach. “These were real, tangible encounters that many of us experienced, and there was no explanation,” Graves testified, calling for improved protocols to ensure pilots feel comfortable reporting such incidents without fear of ridicule or reprimand.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) called for more thorough scientific investigation, stressing the importance of distinguishing potential foreign surveillance drones from true unidentified phenomena. “We need a multi-agency approach that looks at UAPs through the lens of national security, science, and aviation safety,” said Gillibrand, who has introduced legislation aimed at establishing a secure channel for reporting UAP encounters.

While the hearing raised awareness of the issue, questions remain as to how Congress and the government will respond. Officials outlined plans to further develop the AARO and increase reporting protocols across military branches, but they acknowledged that public information on the matter is still limited. Some lawmakers have suggested classifying UAPs as a standing threat assessment item, warranting regular reviews and updates.

For the American public, the hearing represented a significant step toward the official acknowledgment of UAPs as a matter of public interest. Lawmakers concluded the hearing with calls for more transparency and accountability, stating that the UAP phenomenon, whether explained by foreign adversaries, scientific anomalies, or something more elusive, deserves rigorous and public investigation.
